"Bri and I "swiped" into each other's lives. But I challenge you to find another millienial couple like us. Virgo vs. Libra. Artist vs. Scientist. "Interracial, interabled, and interhotness" as one of my close friends described us. We aren't meant to be, yet somehow we are.
We connect through laughter, sharing clothes, eating our hearts out (physically and metaphorically), exploring the world, and ogling over photos that we've taken of one another.
I am in awe of her grit, her beauty, her lust for life. She will change the world. The stares will change from inquisitive to inspired. And I get a front row seat."
"Shel and I started dating in the winter of 2019 and have been on a constantly evolving journey ever since. When I first introduced myself to Shel I told him my chair was an important part of me and her name was Aphrodite. My teenage self would have cringed at the thought of this, linking my identity so strongly with my chair to a man.
As a young teenager I thought my chair would hinder me from ever finding true love. I saw no representations of interabled couples anywhere. However, my dating life and relationships never felt out of beat with my friends and peers, but that childhood fear would occasionally wiggle its way into my mind and I would downplay my chair with partners.
Shel is really the first man who’s known my chair as Aphrodite. As a central part of me. Disability as a central part of me. And it’s honestly been incredible to see how much he respects my body, my chair, and my community."
Meet Gesy @queen_fresh and Erica! Here is what Gesy had to say about their relationship:
"We are The Mirabals. I'm an artist. I have been in a wheelchair for almost 4 years. I recently got back into the gym since my injury and I love it. My wife is a bookeper.
We are high school sweethearts. We've been together for 14 years and married for 7 months. She has been a great support system in my life before and after my injury.
We love to go to museums, go to the movies, stroll the city at night, we love to go out with our friends and dance and drink the night away."
